Graduated in physics at the State University of Tbilissi, Georgia.
He worked as a research associate at the Scientific-Industrial Association 'Talga', at the Academy of Science of Georgia prior to his appointment as a Executive Director of the Caucasian Institute for Peace, Democracy and Development (CIPDD).
From 1997 - 2000 Irakli Mchedlishvili was twice appointed Leading Specialist to the Committee on Foreign relations of the Georgian Parliament.
Since 1998 he also chairs the Center for Peace and International Relations Studies (CPIRS).
